Overview of Position

The Flex Assistant is a part-time role which will work between the Cultivation and Processing Departments. This non-management, entry-level position offers the unique opportunity to learn and grow with the company by being part of the teams working in two of our valued departments. The successful candidate will possess a passion for horticulture, producing and packaging clean, potent, safe medicine and have a strong willingness to learn. The successful candidate will also provide focused attention to daily care of the crop, attention to detail and recordkeeping.

Cultivation Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Flex Assistant in Cultivation include crop care as specified by the Cultivation Operations Manager, maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation inside the cultivation area and performing other tasks as needed.

Crop care

  • Maintaining consistency and discretion when pruning crop at various stages
  • Routine visual inspection of plants to identify any pests/deficiencies and reporting findings to Shift Leader and Cultivation Manager

Data Logging

  • Maintaining accurate records of daily progress and discarded plant material

Facility and equipment maintenance

  • Proper usage, maintenance and storage of all tools and equipment, including but not limited to: shop vacs, pumps, hoses, carts, fiskars, scissors, loppers, stools, gloves, rags, and goggles.
  • Cleaning/sanitizing pots to ensure that there are sufficient levels for repotting
  • Complete daily and periodic cleaning tasks as assigned. Daily cleaning consists of: sweeping and spot mopping all areas on the cultivation floor, common bathroom, break room, and loading area
  • Proper disposal of waste at the end of each day
  • Assists in completing other secondary cultivation tasks at the direction of the Cultivation Manager or Shift Leader according to company needs
  • Follows all aspects of the workplace safety program, biosafety program, and compliance with all rules and regulations
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment inside the cultivation area

Processing Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Flex Assistant in Processing include all aspects of post-harvest trimming, monitoring weight and measurements, presentation and maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness and sterility inside the processing area.

  • Assists in processing intermediate (post-harvest) medicine
  • Keeps accurate records on each plant using Company system and protocols
  • Records and tracks accurate weights and measurements of medicine throughout the processing procedures using company systems and protocols
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment inside the processing area
  • Inspects medicine for defects using a variety of magnification tools
  • Operates, cleans and stores trimming equipment
  • Assists in completing other secondary processing tasks at the direction of the Processing Manager or Shift Leader according to company needs.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience Required

  • Work history showing progressive responsibility, willingness to accept additional projects or challenges
  • 1+ year experience in horticulture, botany, or related field preferred

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic computer & office equipment operations (inventory systems; Word; Excel; office equipment such as copiers/telephone systems)
  • Math required for inventory, projections, and measurements

Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet
  • Close visual focus required
  • This position requires occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects
  • Maine state resident
  • Must pass a drug test and background check (state mandated, medical marijuana cardholders are not disqualified for cannabis)

Starting Pay: $16/hr
