Overview of Position

The Processing Assistant provides the daily care and focused attention necessary to process and package clean, potent, safe product for our customers. The successful candidate will possess a keen attention to detail and record keeping, and a willingness to continually learn more about the subject. This entry-level, non-management position offers the opportunity to learn and grow with the Company from the ground up, and to take on increasing levels of responsibility over time.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Processing Assistant include all aspects of the daily care of product from harvest to packaging; monitoring weights and measurements; presentation; and maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness and sterility inside the processing area

  • Assists in harvesting, processing and packaging finished product
  • Keeps accurate records on each plant using Company system and protocols
  • Records and tracks accurate weights and measurements of product throughout the processing and packaging procedures using company systems and protocols
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment inside the processing area
  • Inspects product for defects using a variety of magnification tools
  • Calibrates, operates, cleans and stores packaging equipment including heat sealers, etc.
  • Prints and applies labels to finished product; stores and inventories finished product according to Company policy and as directed by the Inventory Manager or Director of Operations
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Processing Manager or Director of Production Operations according to Company needs

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years post-secondary education in biology or chemistry

Work Experience Required

  • Work history showing progressive responsibility, willingness to accept additional projects or challenges
  • 1+ year experience in horticulture, botany, or related field

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic computer & office equipment operations (inventory systems; Word; Excel; office equipment such as copiers/telephone systems)
  • Math required for inventory, projections, and measurements

Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, sitting, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet
  • Close visual focus required
  • This position occasionally requires the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects
  • Maine state resident
  • Must pass a drug test and background check (state mandated)

Additionally, candidates who accept an offer of employment will be provided with instructions for securely submitting proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to the individual’s start date, as well as the Company’s process for requesting and completing an applicable medical or religious exemption form.
