Summer is here! What’s on your adventure list?

Here at Wellness Connection and HighNorth, we are pumped for summer!

Maine offers so much all year long but let’s be real, the summer season is absolutely delicious! With so many spots to visit, how does one choose?

We’ve rounded up some favorite locales that out-of-town visitors and our snowbirds are bound to enjoy. And to all our customers returning back to Maine for the summer, welcome home!

Maine’s biggest city, Portland, got its name for a reason. The city served as the largest port hub in 17th century New England. Now it’s an undeniable hot spot for Mainers and visitors alike. On a peninsula in Casco Bay, many people flock to the city’s Old Port to partake in all the fabulous restaurants and shops. Portland is well known and loved in the food industry. In fact, Bon Appetit named Portland the 2018 Restaurant City of the Year! Make sure to check out the East End for spectacular views of the Casco Bay and nearby islands.

Acadia National Park

Named the “Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast,” this popular park hosts 3.5 million visitors a year. Acadia is one of the 10 most-visited national parks in the United States. With 158 miles of hiking trails, it’s easy to see why. Located on Mount Desert Island along the coast, there are miles of shoreline to explore. Get outdoors for canoeing, kayaking and sailing, which are popular activities. Want to ride your bike? Enjoy miles of carriage roads open to bikers and walkers. You can even drive the Park Loop Road, taking in 27 miles of beautiful Maine rugged scenery. Acadia National Park is about 160 miles from Portland. The border is shared with the town of Bar Harbor. Definitely put Bar Harbor on the to-do list.

Old Orchard Beach

Are you looking for a beautiful, clean beach, the best Pier fries around, and a high-in-the-sky Ferris wheel? In other words, OOB is your destination! Approximately 25 miles south of Portland, families come from all around to enjoy the seven mile stretch of sand. Here in “the OOB” as locals call it, you’ll find pizza slices and fried dough as well as a strip of souvenir shops for that perfect t-shirt. Don’t forget to pop into Palace Playland, the town’s five-acre amusement park with the state’s biggest arcade.

Sebago Lake

As the second largest lake in Maine, Sebago Lake is 45 square miles and a favorite cool-off spot for many in southern Maine. Spend your day on the shore, dipping in and out of the water, or head to Sebago Lake State Park. Situated near Naples and Casco, the park offers lakeside camping, picnic areas, and boat launches. Other activities include plane excursions, golf, and fishing. Did you know Sebago Lake is one of the deepest lakes in Maine? There are some areas that are over 300 feet deep! With these deep areas and large populations of lake trout, it truly is a fishing paradise!

Moosehead Lake

Surrounded by beautiful Maine wilderness, in the early 1900s, Moosehead Lake was the premier vacation destination for many wanting to escape city life. By the mid-1900s Moosehead Lake was being used by the logging industry and home to many steam ships that would lug logs down the length of the lake. Today, vacationers from all over come to the Moosehead Lake Region to do all the things – kayak, canoe, fly fish, and whitewater raft. Many people choose to hike, bike, and observe the wildlife. Moosehead Lake is the largest lake in Maine just three hours from Portland. It is located in the Maine Highlands which features Mount Katahdin and the Penobscot River.
